It is just a commercial though. This would never actually happen in real life. It's just typical Hollywood though. Seriously. My only guess is that they feel that up-shifting the transmission in the 3rd vehicle would result in a down-shift in pitch (as the RPMs decrease in the higher gear), thus allowing the note to drop back down.
