i suggest looking into some of my fave guitarists such as martin simpson, martin carthy. both play acoustic folk. they do some complex fingerpicking patterns incorporating vocal melody in to their guitar playing.  although they like alternative tunings! i always wished there were some tab tho. nont easy to learn by ear or notation! hardly any books on their material.
