Is that how he started out? I don't know about that.

I know all about Malmsteen, check my last.fm profile if you want proof. http://www.last.fm/user/matt221984/

Classical rock. A little heavy on the cheese but you gotta admit the kid's got chops. Isn't this how Yngwie Malmsteen started out? Oh, what you never heard of him? Didn't think so..

KT,

Actually... thats not me. I aspire to be that pro as well, but sadly, I just found that video on google video. I was only posting it to showcase some of the better players on the net. So many people post videos on youtube and such of themselves just making noise, trying to show off skills that they dont really have. This guy is really clean and really consistent. I just wanted people see what real talent is.

For sure the first thing I noticed was his precision. I guarantee he could play faster than that, but for the sake of precision he is playing at a more moderate (for him) pace.

Since seeing this video I have decided to learn how to sweep pick. I watched a Zakk Wylde video a few years ago and he was asked why he doesn’t use tapping and sweep picking techniques in his playing. His response was basically that he considered them tricks, and other players had already mastered them and made a symbol of their sound because of their use of those techniques. Obviously Zakk's signature is his use of the pinch harmonic. It's true that if anyone were to use harmonics as much as he does they would be accused of being a Wylde rip-off.

The funny part was he was holding a guitar in the interview and played some crazy tapping/sweeping riffs when he was asked the question. He said, "it's not like I can’t do it. It's just that stuff has been cornered by someone else already" (paraphrased of course).

To make a long story short, since that I had seen no point in sweeping, but I have now dedicated myself to learning it.

I agree with you. He has nailed down precision and tone unlike the other Youtube/etc videos.

For the first video, his sweeping and shredding parts are very clean. His bending/sounding vibratos sound beautiful too. His second video is impressive too.

You know that a person is a good guitar player when one can play shred parts coupled with ample reverb, without sounding muddy.

P/S: Just found your website. Nice! Bookmarking this place.
