Guitar World: February 2006

Saturday, January 28th, 2006

Guitar World February 2006I know it’s a little late, but here’s my overview of February’s Guitar World. I was a little skeptical when I saw the cover. What is Jimmy page doing with Jack White? I was really hoping they werent doing some kind of colaboration. When I read the article I realized it was just a discussion about their blues influences. The article really focuses on the pioneering of blues by Charley Patton, Son House, and Robert Johnson, and how those artists influenced Page and White. I few pages later it is followed by a five page article on John Bonham, the drummer from Led Zeppelin.

5 Song Transcriptions

  2. White Stripes - Blue Rochid

First Post: I like guitar

Thursday, January 19th, 2006

Welcome to Guitar Stuff. For some reason I have found myself plagued with the urge to blog for a while now. I have been paying for web space every month that I haven’t really been doing anything with. I tried creating a personal site, and a links site, but neither really kept my interest. This time I have decided to start with something I like and build on that, and there isn’t much I like more than playing guitar.

I started playing guitar when I was 14. A lot of the people around me played instruments, family friends and such, so there were always guitars around my house as a kid. One day I decided I wanted to learn to play. My best friend and I just decided to start. We used the internet to download lessons and tabs for our favorite songs. Soon we were playing full songs, jamming together, and were actually in a bit of a competition to get better than each other.

When I started this I was a little worried that I might fall into the same old pattern of starting a site and loosing interest after a month of working on it. Instead of making the site live from day one I have been working on it behind closed doors for over a month now. I have written over 25 posts already. Hopefully this will help me fill some of those times when I have little to write. I know nobody is reading now, but hopefully with some hard work I can gain some interest and a reader base. Also I have made a plan for regular posts. Basically, I’m going to do my best to stick in this one for the long haul. Who knows, maybe I’ll be successful this time.

Because I’m self taught I do lack the musical theory that others have. However, I can play quite well, and I hope I can share my knowledge with others who also wish to play. I would say this blog is definitely geared slightly towards people just starting out on the guitar, especially ones who are teaching themselves. But I also hope that I can bring some interesting information to even skilled guitarists.
